Residential Volunteering

Chirag Parekh, Year 13

Volunteering with Vitalise I can definitely say is an experience of a lifetime. Vitalise is a National Charity providing essential breaks for disabled and visually impaired people and their careers. It’s a great opportunity to meet lots of other volunteers and more importantly the guests (people with physical disabilities) that have come from all over the UK. This 1 week gave me an insight to just how lucky we are and how that people with disabilities are just the same as us, but require a great deal of personal care, more than one can imagine. It was definitely a very daunting experience at first but as the week went along the daily routine became second nature to me and by the end of the week I couldn’t believe we were leaving.

We went up to the Skylarks Centre, in Nottingham in a group of seven and I can say that as a group we had a fantastic time and I am sure Mark and Tim will remember one of the great moments when we got up and sang Barbie Girl by Aqua on the karaoke machine. I personally cannot wait to go back up to Nottingham and volunteer again and can recommend to anyone with a caring nature to volunteer their time, and the experience will definitely change your view on life.
